Research Scientist: Centre for Healthcare Innovation &
Improvement, BC Research Institute for Children's & Women's Health. Vancouver,
Canada.
Assistant Professor: Department of Paediatrics, University of British Columbia.
Vancouver, Canada.
Nikki has recently moved to Vancouver, Canada where she has taken up appointment
with the Centre for Healthcare Innovation & Improvement (CHII).
Immediately prior to this, she completed a three-year study investigating &
facilitating the relationship between policy and practice in primary care
informatics. As such, she was the holder of a UK NHSE (NW) Research &
Development Post-doctoral Training Fellowship, believed to be the first to be
awarded in either primary care or informatics. Prior to this, Nikki co-ordinated
and undertook a multi-disciplinary evaluation of telemedicine projects being
undertaken in the North West region of the NHS in England. She retains an active
interest in this field.
Nikki's primary research interest is in the people, human and organisational
issues associated with Health Informatics. Specifically, her current work
concentrates on the effect of informatics on the provider/patient relationship
and patient outcomes. In 1999 she undertook a short sabbatical with the national
General Practice Computing Group (GPCG) and the Department of General Practice,
University of Sydney, Australia where she advised the Department of Health and
Aged Care (DHAC) on their first national strategy for General Practice
Computerisation. Her Health Informatics evaluation methodology (CHEATS) is being
used to evaluate the implementation of that revised strategy.
