Helen Sampson
Helen Sampson qualified as a registered nurse over 35years ago and has wide clinical experience across secondary care. Experience was gained working in the community following qualification as a Social Worker. Helen returned to hospital work in the eighties and an interest in information technology began when she was a senior staff nurse in ITU/CCU and a General Night manager. It was from here she was appointed as Resource Management Project Nurse and was heavily involved in the procurement of departmental systems and the implementation of a new patient administration system, the hospital being an alpha site. Helen is the Clinical Guidelines Manager at St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, as part of the Clinical Effectiveness Support Unit, so is keen to see information technology develop to aid clinicians not as a hindrance . For the last 10years she has been a committee member of the BCS Health Informatics Specialist Group-Nursing and is now chair. As chair she is a voting member of the Health Informatics Committee and has been involved in a number of national initiatives. For the past 4 years Helen has been on the Nursing Professions Information Group sponsored by the NHS Information Authority and became Chair in September. Helen has chaired and has spoken at National and International conferences, managed and facilitated workshops and helped organise several conference days.
