Heather Strachen

Heather Strachan has over 20 year experience in health informatics.  She is the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions eHealth Lead in the Scottish Executive Health Department.  She trained as a nurse in Glasgow after which she worked in Intensive Care Units at a number of London Hospitals including St Mary’s Hospital and Westminster Hospital.  It was while she worked at Westminster Hospital, in the mid 1980s, as a Practice Development Nurse, that her interest in health informatics began having worked on a project to develop computerised nurse care planning, scheduling and workload systems. Later, Heather joined the Information Department at Charing Cross Hospital in London as a project manager.  Heather has held a variety of posts, which have involved management, practice development, research and healthcare governance.
